At 62 years old, high-school music teacher Jeff Taylor isn’t yet ready to retire. But, with osteoarthritis and a torn knee muscle, he found it challenging to move around the classroom, manage his students, and enjoy his job.
“I love the job, I don’t want to leave it, so I’ve been working, but working with more and more debilitating arthritis,” says Jeff. “I work with teenagers and I need to move around the building quite a bit, so being mobility impaired isn’t ideal.”
After his knee replacement surgery in March, he was treated by THP Physiotherapist Nirmala Kodali. Over the course of six weeks, he met with her in person individually and with a class of six patients online. “She delivered the same patient-tailored care to not just myself, but to a half-dozen of us and somehow she seemed to notice everything. She paid attention to each patient and really cared that they got a great outcome. It was amazing how frequently she could identify for each individual what was needed to make the next set of reps more productive.”
With Nirmala’s help, Jeff is returning to the classroom with a renewed passion for teaching. “I’ll be very glad to be going back in a much, much better physical and mental condition. I’m excited to be going back without a cane and be able to wander around the room and engage with my students.”
