Funds raised will support the future home of The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital
Mississauga, ON – May 9, 2023 – Trillium Health Partners Foundation is proud to announce the second annual Hazel McCallion Walk for Health, set to take place on June 4th, 2023. This year’s fundraising event will celebrate the life and legacy of Honorary Guardian Hazel McCallion, a dedicated champion of health care, and raise funds to help Trillium Health Partners build the largest hospital in Canada, the future home of The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital.
The Hazel McCallion Walk for Health is an excellent way to honour Hazel’s memory and support the hospital she loved. The event will feature 2 km and 5 km waterfront walk options that start and end at Port Credit Memorial Park, followed by a Family Fun Festival with tons of activities, including a BBQ lunch, inflatable bouncers, balloon animals, a colouring contest, live music and more.
The fundraiser is an opportunity for the community to come together to support health care in the West GTA and help Trillium Health Partners build Canada’s largest hospital. The new hospital will provide more beds, shorter wait times, and greater specialization closer to home for patients and their families. It will also equip hospital physicians and staff with leading-edge equipment and resources needed to deliver exceptional care for the growing community.
Orlando Corporation has generously offered to double all funds raised by participants through their match donation. Registration, participation ribbons, T-Shirts, swag bags and access to the Family Fun Festival, which includes lunch is free, as long as participants meet fundraising minimums.
“Last year, we were fortunate to have Hazel with us to kick off what turned out to be an incredibly successful event. We are excited to continue this tradition in honour of her extraordinary life and enduring impact,” says Caroline Riseboro, President and CEO of Trillium Health Partners Foundation. “I encourage everyone to join us on June 4th to celebrate Hazel’s life, raise funds, and help create a new kind of health care for the city and region Hazel loved.”
Melanie Ng, broadcaster and walk spokesperson will be in attendance with Tammie Sutherland, anchor, Breakfast Television. RBC-sponsored Olympian and 2x Canadian Olympic swimmer and World champion medalist Javier Acevedo will help warm up the crowd.
Participants can also enjoy watching the adorable and talented Global Pet Foods’ SuperDogs perform a few tricks of their own.
RBC-sponsored Canadian musicians will also be in attendance, including Dallas, who has over 28 million streams of her song Outerspace, and CZN, the popular winners of Canadian Families Got Talent.
